Aloha from the South Franklin Community Center!

Did you hear music in the Franklin South neighborhood on recently that made you want to dance?

Well if you did and happened to wander over to the South Franklin Community Center, you would have seen us kicking off the summer right with a LUAU! On May 30th the community came together to enjoy entertainment and a beautiful summer day.

With over 75 volunteer Polynesian dancers from the Provo YSA 220th Ward, yummy food cooked with love, and over 100 volunteers, it was an event done right. Families and friends gathered from the neighborhood to start their summer. Smiles were shared and friendships created. It was great to have the community come together to share this multicultural event.

The show included dances from Hawaii, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa and even had some hip hop and fire dancing!  The dancers practiced for over 1,870 hours for the show, which resulted in a magnificent performance! You could also make candy leis as a nice dessert for later.

Program leads from the community center were there helping people sign up for classes during the event. With over 350 people who showed up, we couldn't have done it without the help of all our volunteers!

We would like to thank our volunteers for all their hard work, dancing, cooking, handing out fliers, donating, and so much more. A special thanks to Bonnie Wolsey-Dickinson, Costco, and Smiths.

You can also check out the newspaper article here.

If you missed it, check out some photos from the Luau! To see all the photos click here.

Provo Parks & Rec Teams Up with the Community

To help the neighborhood flourish and have a safe place to play, Provo Parks and Recreation are building an elite soccer playing field located at 807 West 600 South in Provo. The new park will feature a playground and various soccer fields, three of these fields are perfect for children learning the art of soccer before venturing out to the bigger adult fields.

There are still many things that need to be accomplished before Franklin Park is ready for use, but on Saturday, April 18th, local residents and community members helped plant 30 plus trees!

We would like to thank Provo Parks and Recreation for providing guidance and everyone who came, we couldn't have done it without you! Check out our photos taken by our very own Erica!
